RETURN BOUT
Title Match May Follow
Dion Murphy and Kimpo Amarfio, who fought a thrilling bout at Canterbury Court on Thursday evening, have both agreed to a return bout next month.
The president of the Canterbury Boxing Association (Mr E. G. Pocock) yesterday said May 14 had been set tentatively. Neither boxer had signed articles for the bout yet. Amarfio has been matched against the Australian professional light-weight champion, Gilberto Biondi, on April 24. This will not be a title bout, and the articles provide that Amarfio or Biondi may weigh in at more than the lightweight limit, 9st 91b. Murphy, by virtue of his narrow win over Amarfio, must be in line for a bout against Biondi for the Australian light-weight title. Biondi is under contract to Stadiums, Ltd., Australia, for the next eight weeks or more. After that, it is possible that Biondi may fight Murphy in Christchurch with the Australian title at stake. The Canterbury Boxing Association has this match as a toppriority target. A lot may depend on the result of the Biondi-Amarfio catch-weight bout, and any return bout between Murphy and Amarfio.
