MONKEY IN HOSPITAL

Bit Capturer After Chase (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 10. An Auckland cadet reporter, Geoff Chapple, sent to cover a story on the search for a monkey that had escaped from a circus, ended up by catching the animal today after it had been at liberty for 18 hours and a half. On the third floor of the Green Lane Hospital tuberculosis ward, he grabbed the monkey by the scruff of the neck. “Crewcut,” a female bit him twice. She had led the circus manager (Mr C. Ridgeway), his son, and others a merry chase through hospital wards, on to roofs and around the hospital grounds. At one stage firemen arrived with extension ladders to retrieve her from the roof of the three-storey tuberculosis block.
