RESIDENTIAL AREA

Garage Allowed On Appeal The erection of a garage and petrol station in Kendal avenue as a conditional use in a residential A zone was permitted by the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board yesterday after it had heard an appeal by John Cullen McNamara (Mr J. R. Woodward) against a decision of the Waimairi County Council (Mr J. G. Hutchinson). Mr R. G. Blunt appeared for Airport Services Ltd., and Mr N. S. Bowie for a group of residents in the area. The council had originally considered that a service station should be provided in the area, but there had been objections from residents, the board was told. The crux of the matter was the council’s previous inclusion in its code of ordinances of garages as a conditional use in a residential A zone, the chairman (Mr J. W. Kealy S.M.) said when the board gave its decision.
