NEW WING FOR D.S.L.

Approval To Start Work will start immediately on the restoration of the burnt-out wing of the Disabled Servicemen’s Reestablishment League building at Riccarton, the Minister of Works (Mr Allen) advised the M.P. for the district (Mr M. A. Connelly) yesterday. The wing, which comprised the stump sock and basket making departments, was gutted by fire in January. The district manager of the league (Mr S. G. G. Common) said last evening he was “very, vepr happy” that a final decision had been made. “We have been seriously handicapped,” he said. “Three men had to be put off because we did not have room for them. They will, of course, be re-employed when the new wing is finished.” Mr Common praised highly the work Mr Connelly had done in negotiating with the Government.

“He has always taken a vital interest in our work and has played a big part in getting a final decision,” said Mr Common.
