SUKARNO’S AIMS

Warning Given To N.Z. (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 8. New Zealand should heed the lessons learned over Hitler and Mussolini and take President Sukarno at his word, said Sir Leslie Munro, M.P., tonight at a meeting of the Auckland Savage Club. “When this man says he is going to crush Malaysia, he means what he says,” he said. “No amount of verbiage will convince me otherwise.” Sir Leslie Munro said he could well understand the moderation adopted by New Zealand and Australia over the Indonesian question, but both countries needed to be ready for any emergency which might arise. Sukarno, he said, had achieved two of his three main objectives independence for Indonesia and the acquisition of West Irian. He was a man of iron objectives and would not stop until he had achieved them all. Sir Leslie Munro said it was worth while to note that, in the past, dictators had only been overthrown by invasion.
