Power’s Last Chance

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. April 8. One of the leading Australian distance runners, D. Power, arrived in Auckland tonight. He said tomorrow night’s 10,000 metres race against M. G. Halberg meant as much to him as it did to anyone. “This is more or less a last ditch stand for me to qualify for Olympic selection In this event,” he said. “Although I came second in the Australian six miles championships, my time of 28min 42sec was 12sec outside the qualifying standard of 28:30. “The Olympic qualifying time for the 10.000 metres is 29:25 and I am hoping to better that time tomorrow night. I only hope Murray Halberg doesn’t repeat his recent performance or I’ll have to lassoo him in order to stay with him.”
