Students Leave Florida Resort

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) DAYTON BEACH, March 31

Thousands of weary college students gave up the beaches yesterday and trekked north from Dayton Beach, Florida, after a wild Easter week-end in which police were called to put down a near riot. United Press International reported.

From the 75,000 students at the resort an estimated 400 were fined between 35 and 135 dollars each by a city judge on charges ranging from traffic violations to participation in yesterday's melee.

One student said the trouble yesterday started when a girl being tossed in a blanket “lost her bathing suit.” "The cops came and she started crying,” he said. “The cops came with motorcycles and tried to run us down. They drove cars through a crowd of kids and I think that’s what started it.”
