NOT LEAVING W.H.O.
S. Africa Wants Membership
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CAPE TOWN, Mar. 27. South Africa will not voluntarily withdraw from the World Health Organisation in spite of the provocation which led to its delegation walking out of the organisation’s assembly in Geneva last week, the Prime Minister, Dr. Hendrik Verwoerd, said yesterday. He said the Government would not relent to the “vendetta” against South Africa because it wanted to “cooperate in providing health services to humanity” and also to give “opportunity and encouragement” to friendly nations which were opposed to its expulsion.
He said Western nations “and others similarly opposed to the injection of extraneous political issues, did their utmost to prevent the regrettable action taken against South Africa.
“These nations must, therefore, be given the opportunity and encouragement to reverse the decision and to re-establish the nohpolitical and technical character of the W.H.0.”
