Mr T.S. Wyman To Retire

Mr T. S. Wyman, who will retire on March. 31 from the post of Director of Administration in the N.Z.; Forest Service, was born.. in Lyttelton and educated in Christchurch. While his career in the Public

Service has, been principally in Wellington he has maintained a wide connexion in his home city, where he has many relatives and friends. In his younger days he played cricket in club competitions and Rugby as a member of the Albion Rugby Football Club, Christchurch,, and the Oriental Club, Wellington. His career in the Public Service took him to the Dominion Observatory, Wellington, and in 1929 to the head office of the Forest. Service. Mr Wyman was seconded to the Samoan Administration in 1930 for three years. Return, ing to the. Forest' Service he was stationed first in Wellington, then in Palmerston North, Auckland and back to Wellington'. in 1947, He did relieving, duty for a considerable period in Christchurch, Hokitika and Nelson;

Mr Wyman recalled that forestry. was in the midst of the boom planting years when be first joined it, and today much of the. service’s operation were Concerned with the harvesting of the timber crop from those early plantings. There were 122 on the permanent staff in 1929, whereas today ’ the permanent roll stands at 1760, aind the complete tally of employees would be about 4000.
