Only One Easter Road Death So Far

WELLINGTON, March 27.
. Easter has begun, well on the roads. Although traffic has been heavy throughput New Zealand, only one fatal accident had been reported by early-this evening.
This occurred at Okaiawa; near Hawera, when a car rolled over at an intersection. It was. the first Easter fatality in the TaranakiWanganui traffic district for three years. . With the likelihood of fine weather in most areas and full sporting programmes, Transport Department officers expect roads will, be packed again tomorrow. .' “Under these conditions there is no room for fancy driving techniques,” the department’s, chief traffic engineer, Mr B. C. Campbell, said tonight. “Every traffic officer, has his orders to tolerate ho actions of this sort.” . . A man was killed and two others escaped injury when a car crashed through a hedge and hurtied over a 60-foot
bank’ in /he early-morning accident near, Hawera. ■ The dead man was: Jack Ngahina Lee, aged 33, married, a barman, of Denby road,. Hawera. Police were told he was the driver of the late-model vehicle, which was. wrecked. The two who escaped “injury had to crawl up . the bank to raise-the alarm were Mrs Yeta Ngahiiia Lee, wife of the driver, and a. Levin friend, Sonny Ransfield.
