Graeme Gorton, the New Zealand baritone who was rushed to the Adelaide festival last Friday as a last minute substitute in Sir Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem,” said today: “It was a great experience, but I’m quite relieved it’s all over” It was one big rush—4ooo miles of flying, hurried meals, ' rehearsals, and sleep snatched in between the two performances on Saturday. “I was so whacked after the afternoon performancing I thought I would never make it in the evening,” said Gorton. He did, however, and the audience of some 2500 gave the “Requiem” a standing ovation. Today, Gorton was rehearsing for the New Zealand Opera Company's forthcoming performance of “Rigoletto,” in which he takes the title role.
