NEW METHOD DEVELOPED

Fight Against Tuberculosis

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) PALM BEACH SHORES (Florida), March 22

The development of a new anti-tubereulosis vaccine was announced yesterday by a United States Public Health Service scientist. Dr. Edgar Ribi told of the development in a report to the sixth annual seminar for science writers sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

He said that the effective B.C.G. vaccine—made of living but toned-down tuberculosis germs—had long been available but that “serious problems connected with production and administration” had so far prevented its gen eral use in the United States But government scientists had now developed a vaccine—made of killed germs—which proved better than B.C.G. in protecting mice against the disease. It would next be tested in monkeys, then in human beings.
