THREAT FOR EARTH
Microbes From Space (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, March 21. A bacteriologist at Britain’s National Institute for Medical Research today warned that the earth could be “invaded” by alien forms of life from other planets. Writing in the monthly magazine, “Discovery,” Dr. P. H. A. Sneath said they could be brought to earth with “disastrous results” by a returning space ship, adding that all space ships should be “disinfected.” Mars was the most likely planet on which to find life, he said, as a little oxygen and some water were in evidence there.
There were signs of volcanic activity on the moon, Dr. Sneath said, which could conceivably provide conditions suitable for microbes in restricted areas.
