Scooters Collide With Duck, Car, Foxy Dog

Miss Evans Was taken to die Princess Margaret Hospital suffering from head, arm and leg injuries. Her condition was later reported to be fair. ;
It was the third and most serious accident involving motorscooter riders within six hours in Christchurch yesterday. A dog was the cause of the first one, and a car and scooter collided in the second. The flying duck struck Miss Evans in darkness. Norwich street is less than half a mile from the Avon river, a duck sanctuary. Miss Evans crashed to the

Prendergast, a university student of 101 Stanbury avenue, was riding his brand-new motor-scooter along Barrington street near the corner of Athelstan street at 1.50 p.m. when a dog ran in his path, ■ • Mr Prendergast flew 15ft through the air and landed head-first on to the rbad after the collision, according to witnesses. ’■ • ■ ''

T, Pender, a grocer bn the corner. “The student climbed groggily to his feet The dog, a foxy type, limped away yelping,” Mr Pender said. for abrasions and suspected concussion, after being taken to the Christchurch Hospital, by ambulance, and was later' allowed home. The dog was: treated .by a veterinary surgeon and allowed to be taken home... Its owners -did pot know until after it had "been’ taken to the vet' that it had been .involved in an accident. A-St. John Ambulance Brigade nurse, Miss Rosemarie MOGarva, of 28 Milton , street, was involved in‘the second accident.: Her motor-scooter and a car collided at the interi section bf Moorhouse avenue arid Colombo street at 7.15 pun.
Miss McGarva suffered arm abrasions and a bruised temple: A .St John ambulance was called but the nurse said she was all right. Later, Miss McGarva’s father took.her to the hospital, and she was discharged after treatment ’ "
