Air Race
Sir,—l was a competitor in the air race on Saturday, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience: but there was a lot of dissatisfaction at the end of the race among all concerned because no rehandicapping was carried out at. Masterton. May 1 ask the organisers why this necessary task was omitted? A farcical situation arose when the winning entrant covered the first leg in one hour and 50 minutes—a much faster time than aircraft that left after him. and then getting a further start at Masterton, when he should have been rehandicapped. Also, may 1 ask the organisers to publish the handicap speed given to the winner, and his actual speed over the course?—Yours, etc., WE WUZ ROBBED. March 11. 1964. [The chairman of the flying committee of the Christchurch Air Exposition, 1964 (Mr R. F. Short), replies: “Full details of the air race will be made available for publication together with recommendations for future conduct of these events. In the meantime it is not intended to answer anonymous correspondence.”]
