Car Sales

A recently published survey of sales of new cars in New Zealand shows Ford is the leading make with 12,508 cars registered last year as against 8827 the previous year. Morris is second with 7575 registrations. Next come Vauxhall, Austin, Holden, Humber, Hillman, Volkswagen, Triumph, Valiant, Standard, Wolseley, Fiat, Singer, Simca, Datsun, Peugeot, Renault, Chevrolet and Riley. The survey does not list the positions of several makes, including Rover, Jaguar, Daimler, Prince, Mercedes, and a few others. In Australia the list is also incomplete, but the top five listed are Holden (131,063), Falcon (37,323), Morris Mini, Volkswagen and Valiant. This list is hard to compare with the New Zealand one, as Fords, for instance, are not grouped together. Cortinas are placed sixth on the list, and there are separate listings for Zephyr, Anglia and Fairlane.
