MANAWATU DOUBLE
Affiliate And Dreadnought (N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, March 17. The aged gelding Affiliate, the fayourite in spite of his lengthy handicap of 84 yards, proved too good in the Manawatu Cup, the main event and first leg of the double on the first night of the Manawatu Trotting Club’s meeting at the Manawatu Raceway tonight. The second leg, the Steward’s Handicap, was won by Dreadnought, which had won at the Cambridge meeting last Friday at his last start. The Affiliate-Dreadnought combination paid £49 9s for £l. The weather was fine and the track good.
On-course the totalisator handled £23,506 10s, including £3077 10s on the double, compared with £35,646 10s last year.
