FOOD PRICE INDEX
Increase Of 7 Points The all-food group of the consumers’ price index rose by seven points between January and February, according to information released yesterday by the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker). There were, however, off-setting upward and downward movements recorded within the individual subgroups. The other food sub-group contributed 18J points. Against this the meat and fish group dropped 1 point and the fruits, vegetables and eggs sub-group Hi points. The most substantial upward contribution from individual items came from sugar
up 161 points. Aerated water ) contributed 11 points, and ;. cake and ice cream 1 point i each. t The downward trend came 1 from potatoes (81 points), eggs (21), bananas (1), beef i- meat items (1), seasonal 1- fruits and vegetables (l),and r tea (!}).
