Playing Olympic Stars
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyrights BANGKOK, March 16. The New Zealand soccer team will be up against Thailand’s top Olympic stars when it meets a Bangkok selection at Bangkok on Wednesday night. The New Zealanders, on a world tour, arrive in Thailand this evening. They have one day to get used to Bangkok’s hot steamy weather—especially taxing to Europeans at this time when the mango showers have not come.
Although their opponents are billed as “the Bangkok selection” it is in effect the crack eleven which Thailand plans to field in the Tokyo Olympics this year. The mainstays in the Thai side are young, fast players iwho have given Thailand a
big name in Asian soccer with their performances in the yearly Asian youth football series. Although Thailand’s top players are in the team announced, it is not sure whether they will be em-
ployed to the maximum. It is understood that Thai football officials are worried that some of their stars might get hurt before the important Sixth Asian Youth football tournament in Saigon next month.
