DANGEROUS “TOYS”

Detonators As Whistles (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, March 13. Two eight-year-old boys .were last night found using detonators as whistles. Kevin Plaisted and Lee Roach were playing in a creek in Whangarei after school when they found a small box containing 10 detonators. Unaware of the danger, they took four detonators from the box to play with and threw the rest away. When they arrived home with their “toys,” a neighbour recognised them . as detonators and reported It to the police. Today, Constable D. Nixon visited the school the boys attend with a detonator to show the pupils what one looks like and to explain how it works. He then took the two boys back to the creek to search for the other detonators but without success. The box was found empty by the bank.
