FRAUD CHARGES

Author Of Book On Slimming (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK, March 12. Dr. Herman Taller, author of the best-seller “Calories Don’t Count,” was indicted yesterday on charges that his book was part of a fraudulent weight-reducing scheme perpetrated throughout the United States. The Attorney-General (Mr Kennedy) announced that the indictment was returned by a Federal grand jury in a United States District Court in Brooklyn, New York. He said toe indictment charged that the scheme involved toe sale of “C.DjC.” capsules to be used in weight reduction according to toe instructions in toe book.

The grand jury also indicted three officers of C.D.C. Pharmaceutical Incorporated, of New York, toe manufacturer of the capsules. The indictment listed 49 counts, 45 of them charging mail fraud, three charging mislabelling in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, and one charging conspiracy.
