Insurance For Children At School Suggested

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, March 11. Accidents to children while at school and in the school grounds have received attention from the Auckland School Committees’ Association,- which has suggested insurance to cover them and relieve parents of medical costs. Now it is looking into what kind of accidents occur at school. Part of the answer is provided in the list of school accidents for the month tabled at today’s meeting of the Education Board. Minor injuries to 28 children were reported, including “cut ankle, flower vase fell on foot,” and “cut finger with pl-sticine knife.” Broken Arms Broken arms (six cases) head the list, followed by four cases of broken teeth —one involving a boy who fainted on parade and another who was bumped while drinking from a bottle. Other injuries reported were an injured foot, bruised or broken ankles, broken toe (“playing softball”), fractured clavicle, broken wrist,

cuts to head, lips and fingers. One boy damaged an eye with powder during an experiment. Another child crushed her fingernails in a door. Six of the more seriously injured children were involved in falls from jungle gyms or other climbing frame apparatus in the playgrounds.
