KAIAPOI ACTIVE
The sum of £l2O was raised in a special effort for the Centennial South-east Asia Appeal by the Kaiapoi subcentre of the Red Cross Society, stated the report presented at the annual meeting held recently. Sick people in the Kaiapoi district had been visited and comforts provided, and the “Good Neighbour Service” scheme was supported. Returned servicemen were supplied with tobacco and Christmas parcels. Members assisted at the blood bank, a total of 94 new garments and 136 second-hand garments and other articles were sent to the Christchurch centre for distribution. Teh following contributions were made to the North Canterbury Red Cross Centre: — Annual assessment, £l7 10s; street appeal market, £6O; disaster and relief fund, £3O; sick and wounded in Malaya, £6O; 100 per cent disabled servicemen’s tobacco fund,
£10; dried milk powder fund, £3O; library fund, £10; Rannerdale and Burwood Hospital comforts fund, £5; soap for Hong Kong, £10; centennial appeal, £l2O. Money Raised
Money-raising efforts during the year had been well supported by the public of Kaiapoi, said the report. The street stall raised £l5B 3s 6d (a record), house-to-house collection £ll5 5s and the John Maybury Show £B4 10s. The following officers were elected:—President, Mrs C. Palmer; vice-presidents, Mesdames H. H. Blackwell, M. Richards, L. Le Petit, T. Baker, R. H. Reid, A. Highman, A. E. Milleken, H. J. Mclntosh, E. Pickering and Misses P. Pearce and Stark; secretary-treasurer, Mrs G. W. White, D. J. Troon and Miss P. Pearce, Mesdames G. W. Witte . D. J. Troon and S. Warwick; trustees, Miss P. Pearce, Mesdames G. W. Witte and H. J. Mclntosh.
