BOUNDLESS ONE OF FAVOURITES TODAY

“The Press” Special Service

AUCKLAND, Feb. 28. Fine training gallop* during the last few days helped keep Feiacita and the Riccarton visitor Boundless at the head of discussions on the £l5OO Franklin Cup at Pukekohe tomorrow. As long as the going is firm they seem likely to remain the popular fancies. Gitano. Sir Henry. Llanelly and Royal Request are well performed runners among the others in the field.

After being vesry hard and dry during a long spell the I track took a wetting yester-; day when the weather broke and became showery. The ; fall was sufficient to freshen .the ground, which will remain fairly firm unless there iis unexpected heavier rain. Fdacita and Boundless are two of the cup candidates which run their middle disI tances in front. Damians • Pride is another. Between ! than they are fairly certain ito force a hot pace over the ■; 10J furlongs of the cup course. A six-year-old from Te ißapa, Felacita has a string of solid middle-distance gallops behind him. Boundless, a three-year-oid gained a time record for New Zealand and Australia when first over 11 furlongs in the Wairarajra Cup on New Years Day. In the meantime he w*on tiie ■ Gloaming Stakes at Trenitham.

Last Year’s Wins Gitano at this time last year won a couple of very worthwhile middle-distances, at New Plymouth, in the Caltex Gold Cup, and at Te Arona, in the Berries Memorial. The signs are that he is getting close to top form again. Sir Henry, at Te Aroha, Llanelly (Ellerslie) and Damian’s Pride (Rotorua) all have a win close up in their form background. Sir Henry is the top-weight witti 8-11. The weights on Felacita and Boundless are 8-7 and 8-6 respectively. The Franklin Cup and the open sprint, the Pukekohe Handicap, of £BOO. seven furlongs, are the races of the T.A.B double. In the Pukekohe Handicap the best chances might be Aro, Repeal and Tax Free. Aro is a four-year-old and the other ' two are three-year-olds. Each !is a young galloper of high promise.
