NEW ROWING STANDARDS

Olympic Trial Times Set

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Feb. 18

A new table of standard times has been set for the Olympic rowing priority trial at Lake Karapfro on Easter Monday. The main difference is that the four-oar crew is now expected to be faster than the double sculls Instead of the reverse as previously. The new standards are the result of Investigations conducted since the Empire Games programme, at the instruction of the New Zealand Rowing Association, by Messrs D. G. Stotter. R. A. Douglas and D. D. Rowlands. Tlie standards have been Influenced by the performance of the New Zealand crews at Perth, by various international tables and by the winning times at the 1963 European championships.

The following is a table showing the old standards, the times recorded at Perth, and the new standards:

Eights. 6;9, 5:54. 6:6; fours, 6:53, 6:48 , 6:46; doubles, 6:51, 6:54. 6:51: pairs. 7:17. 7:8, 7:16; singles. 7:24 , 7:40, 7:26.
