Wakefield Avenue

Sir, —In putting in a new footpath on Wakefield avenue, Sumner, the City Council is increasing its width by taking Bft from the main highway. Surely a footpath of 4ft or sft would do here as this highway is used by large trucks' carrying wool, petrol, bitumen, and freight, and will not be using the tunnel road. Instead of taking Bft off the main highway', they should be making the new footpath smaller as it is hardly used.—Yours, S. W. HICKMOTT.

February 14, 1964. [The City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scoular) said: “The carriageway width in Wakefield avenue will be 42ft, which is the same as a standard city street. It is determined, in part, by the section which falls away to the croquet green.”]
