VETERINARY CLUB
Statement By Chairman
In reply to criticism of the Kaikoura Veterinary Club, the chairman (Mr H. C. Acton Adams) has issued the following statement:— “The executive of the veterinary club is at the moment fully aware of the loss to the district due to the lack of a veterinarian. The Veterinary Services Council has advised the club that it cannot recommend the position to a suitable veterinarian until it can provide suitable accommodation. At the moment the council has no locum available-
“To correct the housing situation will cost something in the region of £6OOO, and the executive has explored all means of raising money to this end. so far without success.
“I consider the club needs £l5OO cash in its building fund before it can make « start, and this must be provided by the district before it would be possible to finance the project “With suitable accommodation I am sure we would get applications for the position.
“The veterinary club has a small membership and a large area and although subscription rates are high and fees are not low, members and others who want adequate veterinary service must be prepared to provide the extra capital needed. “The executive has applied for a State house in an endeavour to tide the situation over temporarily, but this course is only a stop-gap and not even an immediate possibility,” the statement concludes.
