VOYAGER INQUIRY
(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) SYDNEY. February 18. The Royal Commission into the sinking of H.M.A.S. Voyager will open in Sydney next Tuesday to take appearance of counsel and to set a date for the taking of evidence. Under its terms of reference, the commission will inquire into:
The cause of the collision, and the loss of the Voyager and the lives of persons aboard it
The facts and circumstances leading up to contributing to, or relating to the affair-
The facts and circumstances about the rescue and treatment of survivors. Sir John Spicer, Chief Judge of the Commonwealth Industrial Court, will conduct the Royal Commission. Mr J. W. Smyth, Q.C., and Mr I. F. Sheppard, a barrister, have been appointed to assist the commission. Mr J. O’Connor has been appointed secretary to the commission. H.M.A.S. Voyager sank off Jervis Bay on February 10 after a collision with the aircraft - carrier Melbourne. Eighty-two men lost their lives.
