Band's Shield For City
The city of Christchurch yesterday received a shield with the regiment’s crest as a memento of the visit of the Scots Guards Band.
The officer in charge (Captain R. Ingham-Clark) presented it to the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) at the Addington Raceway.
Mr Manning said Britain had given a wonderful reception to the New Zealand National Band and New Zealand was now pleased to reciprocate not only on that score but also because of the reputation of the Band of the Scots Guards. “This is a band with a history, with a tradition, and with a repertoire which makes it one of the great music makers of Scotland and of Britain." said Mr Manning. “It is our privilege to have this visit.”
