P. G. Coman gave his best batting performance for East ChristchurchShirley this season when he made 62 hot out against Lancaster Park. Coman concentrated his attentions

A. T. Bishop’s fine century for Old Collegians on Saturday Came after a succession of consistently useful scores. He failed in the first match of the season, but after that, in 12 completed innings, he was out only once for under 16. It was Bishop’s third senior century; in 1959-60 he made 120 against St. Albans and 105 against Lancaster Park. ¥ ¥ ¥ Old Boys seem to have a battalion of old soldiers who never quite fade away, and can be called on for duty when necessary. Earlier this season, C. G. Snook, who had not played regularly in senior cricket for four years, was recalled for a match. Then I. A. Baxter and W. McD. Anderson were played. Baxter, whose senior career started in 194243, had played his last j game in 1957-58. Ant derson, who joined the 5 seniors in 1936-37, had J finished regular play J in 1949-50. But they J both showed they are j still fully capable of s making runs in the top 5 grade. On Saturday, O. J C. Jones kept wickets. ; He played twice in the ; 1955-56 season, but he J had left the senior 5 grade in 1951-52.

A. T. Waters played a very pleasing innings of 76 for West ChristchurchUniversity against Old Boys. This is the first season he has commanded a • regular place in the senior team, although he first played for it in 1959-60, and Saturday’s innings was his first half-century. A left-hander, he has some excellent strokes, but has seldom shown sufficient confidence. This fine display could very well lead to more of its kind. • * ¥ ¥

The Old Boys batsman, B. A. Bolton, reached a total of 3000 runs in senior cricket on Saturday. The Riocarton captain; I. McK. Sinclair,. took his aggregate to 2500.

With his brilliant 143 on Saturday, B. F. Hastings now has a club aggregate of 694, and with four playing Saturdays remaining, he has a good chance of improving, on the record post-war aggregate of 817 he set last summer. ¥ ¥ ¥ In his first senior game since the 1960-61 season, D. I. A. Cameron (East Christchurch - Shirley) created a good impression against Lancaster Park on Saturday. He did not turn the ball a great deal but kept his left-arm spinners on the spot and in his 19 overs before lunch conceded only 26 runs. Cameron later took the wickets of R. T. Dowker and B. C. Irving in one over. ¥ ¥ ¥ When B. A. Carpenter was taking wickets for Old Collegians on Saturday, some of the out-of-work St. Albans batsmen kept telling each other how successful Carpenter had always been against their club. Saturday was only the third occasion on which Carpenter had taken five wickets hi a St. Albans innings, but he has certainly enjoyed consistent success in these games. In all, Carpenter now has 189 senior wickets, and 48 of them have been St. Albans batsmen, an unusually high proportion. And it was against St. Albans, in the 1957-58 season, that he achieved the startling figures of five for none.
