CHRISTCHURCH-LfTTHTON ROAD TUNNEL AUTHORITY VEHICLE TOLLS AND GOODS TOLLS As from 12.1 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 1964, traffic through the Tunnel will be subject to vehicle toll and goods toll as prescribed by the Authority’s proposed By-Law. The following information with regard to these tolls will be of interest to intending users of the Tunnel. VEHICLE TOLLS The following schedule setting out vehicle tolls forms part of the By-Law and such tolls are payable when passing either way through the toll barriers at Heatchote. Class Type of Vehicle Toll Charge per Vehicle per trip. 1 (a) Private car, taxi cab, station waggon, Hearse, Commercial vehicles up to 2 tons (laden) 2/6 (b) Trailer, Caravan, etc., towed behind any of the foregoing vehicles—per axle 2/6 2 Motor Cycle (with or without side car), motor scooter, moped 1/3 (a) Omnibus (2 axle) I. 6/(b) Omnibus—each additional axle 2/6 4 (a) 2 axle vehicles other than those mentioned above, up to 3 tons weight (laden) 3/(b) Each additional axle in excess of two 2/6 5 (a) 2 axle vehicles over 3 tons and up to 5 tons weight (laden) 4/(b) Each additional axle in excess of two 2/6 6 (a) 2 axle vehicles over 5 tons and up to 7 tons weight (laden). 5/(b) Each additional axle in excess of two 2/6 7 2 axle vehicles over 7 tons weight (laden) 6/8 3 axle vehicles over 7 tons and truck trailer combinations of 3 axles 7/6 9 (a) 4 axle vehicles over 7 tons and truck trailer combinations of 4 axles. , 10/(b) Each additional axle in excess of four 2/6 10 Exempted persons and vehicles. No toll 11 Each additional axle in Classes 1,3, 4,5, 6 and 9 2/6 GOODS TOLL Clause 11 of the Authority’s proposed By-Law reads as follows: “(a) There shall be a toll payable in respect of all goods taken in or 011 the Tunnel which goods shall have been landed on or are to be shipped from any of the wharves under the control of the Lyttelton Harbour Board and such toll shall be at the rate of four shillings and sixpence per ton. There shall be a minimum goods toll of 1/- in respect of any one consignment of goods. Such goods toll shall be payable in addition to the vehicle tolls prescribed in the First Schedule hereto. There shall be no goods toll payable in respect of goods other than those mentioned above nor in respect of passengers’ luggage. Except as hereinafter in this clause set out a ton for the purposes of this By-Law shall be computed in the same manner as tonnage is from time to time computed by the Lyttelton Harbour Board for the calculation of wharfage dues. In the case of the goods immediately hereinafter set out the method of calculating tonnage shall be as follows: (I) Petroleum products in drums or eases—by weight or measurement whichever is greater. (II) Petroleum products in bulk—computed as follows: Kerosines, mineral turpentine, aviation turbine fuel —2BO gallons to the ton. Gas oil, automotive diesel oil, industrial diesel fuel, light fuel 0i1—260 gallons to the ton. Heavy fuel oil and furnace 0i1—240 gallons to the ton. (HI) Timber, Hardwoods—32o super feet to the ton. (IV) Timber, Softwoods—4Bo super feet to the ton. (V) Wool, sheepskins, rabbitskins and deerskins—by weight. (VI) Livestock (a) Horses, cattle, etc.— two to the ton. (b) Sheep, pigs, etc.—2o to the'ton. (b) Persons or companies who desire to use the Tunnel for the carriage of the goods prescribed in sub-caluse (a) of this clause may apply to the Authority (on a form to be supplied by the Authority) for a licence to operate a vehicle or vehicles through the Tunnel for such purpose without being obliged to pay the prescribed goods toll at the time of passing through the toll barrier. Such a licence may be granted or refused by the Authority in its absolute discretion and if granted then upon such terms and conditions as it may in its absolute discretion decide. A condition of every such licence shall be that the Licensee undertakes to make a return by the 20th day of each month (on a form to be supplied by the Authority) of all goods as aforesaid carried by him through the Tunnel during the preceding calendar month on vehicles in respect of which a licence has been issued. The return shall be accompanied by payment of all tolls payable in respect of the goods, as aforesaid, carried through the Tunnel by the licensee during the month for which the return has been made. A licensee shall be entitled to make in each month and by way of discount a deduction of 11/*I 1 /* per cent of the toll charges payable if the above-mentioned return is lodged and payment made as herein set out. (c) In the event of a person or firm not licensed as aforesaid operating through the Tunnel a vehicle carrying any of the goods prescribed in sub-clause (a) of this clause, the goods toll shall become payable by the driver of such vehicle at the time of passing through the toll barrier and the driver shall for this purpose be required to make a declaration (on a form to be supplied by the Authority) setting out the goods which are being carried on the vehicle The driver in support of his declaration may be required to produce any waybill, consignment note or other document relating to the goods.” Persons or companies who desire to apply for a licence as set out in Clause II (b) of the Authority’s proposed By-Law may obtain the necessary form from the Authority’s office. TOLL TICKETS Prepaid toll tickets which will be accepted in payment of vehicle tolls at the time of passing through a toll barrier are available for purchase by intending users of the Tunnel. These are in the following denominations: Class 1 (a) Book of 8 tickets £1 0 0 Class 2 Book of 10 tickets 10 0 Class 3 Book of 10 tickets £3 0 0 Class 4 (a) Book of 10 tickets £1 10 0 Class 5 (a) Book of 10 tickets £2 0 0 Class 6 (a) Book of 10 tickets £2 10 0 Class 7 Book of 10 tickets £3 0 0 Class 8 Book of 8 tickets £3 0 0 Class 9 (a) Book of 10 tickets £5 0 0 Class 11 Book of 8 tickets £1 0 0 Purchases may be made at the Authority's Office or at the office of the Automobile Association (Canterbury), Latimer Square.
