Kerr’s Reach Pennant Series Won By Union
The Union Rowing Club left no doubts of its superiority in the Kerr’s reach pennant regatta series when it won four races in the last round of the series at the Avon Rowing Club’s regatta at Kerris reach on Saturday. Union took the series with 22 points. In second place was Canterbury with 12 points. Avon was. third with nine points, then came Timaru with two
points. In. the senior fours event, the unbeaten Canterbury crew did not compete because of the absence of its stroke, T. Just, and the Timaru No. 1 crew had an easy three lengths win over its No. 2 crew.
Cheered vigorously by their club president, Mr B. Walker, the Avon youth pair, B. Walls and R. McQuinn,. boosted themselves from behind Canterbury to' a good win. The senior eights race was taken by Union from Timaru. At the start, Avon had a slight lead but it was not long before both Union and Timaru had caught, up. Union went into the lead and held it, in spite of an all-out effort by TimaruResults were:— Senior Four.—Timaru No. 1, 1: Timaru No. 22, Avon 3. Three lengths; one length.
Youth Pairs.—Avon No. 1 1, Canterbury 2, Avon No. 2 3. Two lengths, a distance. Maiden Fours.—Union No. 1 1, Avon 2, Union 3. Two lengths, a distance. Junior Singles. Union 1, Avon 2, Timaru' 3. Four lengths, a distance. . Novice -Fours.—Union 1, Avon 2. Four lengths. Senior Pairs.—Canterbury 1, Timaru 2, Union 3. One length; a distance. Maiden Eights. Avon 1, Union 2, Canterbury 3. One and a half lengths, one and threequarter lengths. Senior Eights.—Union 1, Timaru 2, Avon 3. Thriee-quarters of a length; one length.
