ORDER FOR N.Z. FISH

1000 Tons For

£46,000

An order for 1000 tons of fish worth about £46,000 has been received by Fish Processing, Ltd., of Christchurch, from an Australian fish-can-ning firm.

The managing director of Fish Processing, Ltd. (Mr G. D. Noonan) said yesterday that the firm wanted kahawai and barracuda. There was a very good market in Australia for these fish and they retailed at lower prices than New Zealand canned fish on sale here.

In addition, Mr Noonan said, he had further orders from Germany and Holland for 15 tons of eels, which would be shipped at the end of March or early in April. An inital shipment of eels last month had proved satisfactory, he said. New Zealand eels did not have as much fat on them as European eels, and were therefore considered second-grade eels.
