AUSTRALIANS WIN MOOT

Professional Advice

Liability Argued The touring Australian universities team was successl- - in the last moot of their four-week New Zealand tour against law students from the University of Canterbury on Thursday. The subject was the liability of a professional man for negligent advice to a client. In the case argued, an accountant in a bank had given advice on buying shares. The Australian team, comprising Messrs J. Lindell and M. Detmold, both of Adelaide University, met Messrs M. D. Brown and A. P. Tipping. Mr Justice Macarthur, who was the judge; said the Australians owed their success to a more penetrating argument. Mr Detmold was the best speaker. Mr J. L. W. Gerken, registrar of the Supreme Court, was the registrar, and Mr W. Young was the court crier. The visitors won the Australian university moots held in Brisbane in 1963 and have been touring New Zealand with a third law student, Mr W. Howell, of Queensland University.
