AIR RACE RULE
Reference To Sponsor A stipulation in the rules for the Chris; church-Master-ton air race, to be held next month, is that newspapers, radio, and television will not be given “relevant details” of the race unless they describe it in news items as being sponsored by a commercial firm, naming the firm. Rule 19 of the official conditions and rules of the race, issued by the organisers, the Canterbury and Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Clubs, and Rothmans (N.Z.), Ltd., states:—
“Relevant details of the 1984 Rothmans air race will be available, to purveyors of news, viz., press, radio, television, on condition that they refer to the ‘1964 Rothman’s Air Race’ in that specific form. Failing agreement to comply with this requirement, the bodies responsible for the running of the air race will not release details of it.’’ The manager of Rothmans (N.Z.), Ltd., Mr K. L. Simich, of Auckland, questioned by telephone about the rule last evening, said that it was a matter he would have to refer to his board of directors. He would do this, and would then answer. The president of the Canterbury Aero Club (Mr G. J. Williamson) was not available for questioning.
