Dr. M. Williams Appointed
Dr. Morvyn Williams, of Wellington, yesterday became the second New Zealander to be president of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He succeeds Dr. K. B. Noad, of Sydney. At the annual meeting of the college in the lecture theatre of the Canterbury Museum, Dr. Williams was cloaked with the ceremonial robes of office. He received the caduceus staff, the keys of the college and a' neck chain. ■ ■
The 126 fellows and members were in their robes of the college.. . In his address, Dr. Noad outlined the activities of the college, particularly in the field of post-graduate medical. education in Malaysia. Dr. Noad said the college required funds for scholarships to help young men take advanced training in internal medicine. The chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Commission (Sir Charles Moses), was chairman, of the college’s general funds appeal committee. At a meeting of the general' body of fellows of the college those recently elected to fellowship, including the professor of physiology at the University of Otago (Professor J. R. Robinson) were presented. Professor Robinson was elected because of his eminence in medicine, under a special article. New Zealanders at their annual, meeting, met under their own vice-president, Dr. J. F. Landreth, of Christchurch. Officers of the New Zealand committee of the college elected were: chairman, Dr. J. A. Keeling, of Wellington; honorary secretary, Dr. G. F. Hall, of Wellington; honorary treasurer, Dr. J L' Adams, of Wellington.
The annual ceremony of •the college in the University -Hall last evening was a splendid spectacle. The presentation of new fellows was made by the Censor-in-Chief (Sir William Morrow) of Australia. The senior censor for New Zealand (Dr. J. F. Landreth) made the presentation- of new members.
