Hasty Retreat To Rock

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, February 12. Four men clambered hastily to safety on to a rock about 50 yards off the Rahotu coastline, 30 miles from New Plymouth when an eightfoot shark cruised towards them and then circled the rock. The men crouched on top for about 15 minutes. Efforts to scare the shark away by splashing in which they had intended to collect mussels proved fruitless. The inen had to wait on the rock until the shark left the vincity and swam towards other sharks a short distance away. When the shark had gone they made a hasty retreat to the shore—without any mussels.
