PILOTLESS PLANE

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) OTTAWA, February 12. A pilotless reconnaissance aircraft being developed for the Canadian and British Armies is almost ready for flight tests at Yuma, Arizona, the Canadian Army announced yesterday. The plane, known as the CLB9, is designed for battlefield use under conditions where manned flight is hazardous or impossible. Development began in 1959. It is the first project in which Britain and Canada have cooperated so extensively. The plane uses a closedcircuit television system to relay information direct to its operating station while flying reconnaissance missions. It is recoverable.
