Pyjamas For Holidays (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PARIS, February 8. Yves St. Laurent and Antonio del Castillo today showed collections of spring fashions typifying a week that contrasted the youthful with the sophisticated look. They featured a choice of styles as far apart as the poles. The approach of each, while remaining individual, echoes notes struck earlier in the week by other leading designers. St. Laurent is in tune with Dior’s present chief designer, Marc Bohan, in the young and ultra-feminine mood. Both Bohan and St. Laurent show youthful bodyconscious silhouettes, highlighted with the schoolgirl freshness of white collars and cropped jackets.

Castillo’s clothes are cut with the architectural precision of the Napoleonic obelisk in the Place de la Concorde, which the Spanish designer has taken as the symbol of his collection. The column silhouette .is shaped without being fitted. Pierre Cardin likewise believes in loose waistlines and relaxed silhouettes. Cardin and Castillo both evolve long suit jackets in opposition to St. Laurent and Dior, with the short, waistietngth, bell-hop jackets. Every designer evolves pleated skirts, ranging from the ingenue box-pleated effect to Castillo’s subtle overlaid pleats, introduced unobstrusively at the sideseams.

Basic silhouettes and “bread-and-butter” clothes for everyday life have not been revolutionary this season. But Paris makes up for this with its holiday and athome wear. Hostesses will receive in exotic outfits, notably pyjamas. St. Laurent’s bright pink satin lounging pyjamas are shown under a floorlength shell pink satin coat bordered with white fox fur. Castillo shows pleated trousers with each leg as wide as an average evening skirt.

Hurt In Collision.— Ross Glenville, of 43 Windsor street, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital suffering from concussion after a collision between a car and a power-cycle at the corner of Avonside drive and Gloucester street at 6.45 p.m. on Saturday.
