FLOODING OF TANKER

Cause Still Not Known (N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, January 23. Naval authorites in Canberra still could not say today the primary cause of the flooding which partly sank the Australian fleet tanker H.M.A.S. Supply at its moorings at Garden Island early yesterday morning. It is still not known how the waiter, which is estimated to have flooded the engine room to a depth of 20ft, got into the hull. An official statement today said that a Naval Board of Inquiry was still investigating. Its report would go first to the Flag Officer commanding the Fleet. RearAdmiral O. H. Becher. The finding would then go to the Naval Board and on to the Minister for the Navy (Dr. J. A. Forbes). No official comment is available on Sydney suggestions of sabotage.
