Burns Address Given

Robert Burns rescued Scottish song from decay and probable disappearance, said Mr J. Mathison, M.P., giving the Burns address to the Scottish Society. Mr Matbison emphasised the value of Bums as a link between Scottish immigrants and their national heritage. He also spoke of Bums tbe humanitarian and noted the universal appeal of this aspect. Tribute was paid to Burns’s poetry and a number of Scottish items, mostly of his work, were presented during the evening. The address to the haggis was given by Mr Campbell Brown.

The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) gave a short address on his overseas tour. 7
