Championships At Auckland "The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, January 23. W. G'. Andrew, of Canterbury, failed to repeat his success of the previous Saturday when he was beaten by the national champion. T. C. Dalton, over 440 yards freestyle at the Auckland swimming championships in the Olympic Pool tonight. But Miss S A. Nicholson, a former Canterbury champion, won the women’s 220 yards freestyle in the Auckland record time of 2min 26sec. Andrew finished 12 yards behind Dalton, whose time of 4min 38.4 sec was 4.Bsec outside his national mark Andrew covered the first 220 yards in 2min 15sec, being a yard and a half behind Dalton at that stage. His time for the full distance was 4min 43.35ec. The New 2Jealand men’s backstroke champion, A. B. Robertson, was beaten for the second time at the championships when he lost his 220 yards title to a first-year senior, H- W. Brown. The young swimmer was only I.Bsec outside Robertson's national record.

Another first-year senior, Miss J. Kennedy (Southland), dead-heated with the national women’s champion. Miss M. Macrae, in the 110 yards backstroke, in spite of a poor turn. The time was 762 sec.
