INVITATION TOURNEY
A. Brooks In Last Eight (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 17. Players from six centres will compete in the quarter-finals of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s junior invitation tournament at Stanley street tomorrow Today the promising young Canterbury players, A. Brooks and J. Mitchell won through to the last eight quite convincingly, with the possible exception that B. Tietjens, of Auckland gave Mitchell a fright in the second round. Mitchell swept through the first set 6-0, but Tietjens romped away with the second. 6- Mitchell finally edged home. 7- in the third. Five Aucklanders—D. Scott. R. Potter. S. Tietjens. L. Brown and B. Dibley—and a Northlander, G. EUiott, also remain in the boys' singles. The girls’ singles covers a wider field, the survivors being M. McKegg (Northland). C. Andrew (Canterbruy), R. Johnston (Waikato). P. Rogan (North Shore) J. Bloxham (Bay of Plenty). D. Kerr-Taylor and C. Fleming (Auckland).
