WOOL SALE PROCEEDS
13-Year Peak In Auckland (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 14. The three wool sales held in Auckland so far this season have returned a total cheque of £6,576,113—the highest figure for the three sales in 13 years. It is exceeded only by the £12,448,412 cheque returned in the first three sales of the boom season of 1950-51, The second main Auckland sale of the season, held on December 18 and 20, returned total proceeds of £3,553,903, or £44,850 more than, the comparable sale last season. A total of 47,678 bales was sold, comprising a net weight of 16,152,1771 b of wool. Last year, 55,304 bales totalled 18,734,1471 b of wool Bale Price Up The average weight of each bale was fractionally higher at 338.771 b against 338.701 b while the average price a bale rose from £63 9s to £74 10s 9d. The price per lb of wool was 52.81d —a rise of 7.86 d from the average of 44.95 d per lb last season. It remained, however, substantially below the level at the celebrated January, 1951, sale, when 45,263 bales returned £7,422,849—an average of £163 19s lOd a bale, or 115.56 d per lb.
Dunedin Wool Sale
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 14. A full catalogue of 47,000 bales will be offered at the two-day wool sale on Wednesday and Friday of next week. Approximately 23,500 bales will be offered on each day. This is the first sale to be held in the city in January for many years, and is a result of the revised 1963-64 sale roster. Formerly, the first Dunedin wool sale in any year was held in late February or early March.
