TALLEST HOTEL

New Auckland Building "The Press- Special Service AUCKLAND, January 13 The Southern Cross Hotel, to be built in Auckland on the site of the well-known Waverley Hotel, will be the tallest hotel in New Zealand. The new hotel, to be owned and operated by New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., is likely to cost between £lm and £Um. The hotel will also be among the taller buildings in the country, as it will contain a basement and 14 main floors. The roof of the top floor will be 165 feet above Queen street. There will be 190 bedrooms of various sizes, and a floor of luxury penthouse suites. All bedrooms will be of the studio room type with divan beds, television, radio and heated bathrooms. On the top floor of the building will be a large dining room with views over the harbour and city. The main dining mom, which will be on the most up-to-date restaurant liney will be on the first floor. The architects for the project are Messrs Stephenson and Turner.

Demolition of the Waverley Hotel is expected to begin in March.
