CATHOLIC DOCTOR
Birth Control Clinic Reprisal (N .Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, January 12. A 36-year-old Roman Catholic woman doctor who has set up a birth control clinic was refused the sacraments at St. Alban’s Church, Wallasey (Cheshire) today. After attending morning Mass, Dr. Anne Biezanek, the mother of seven children, said: “I had been told beforehand that I would be refused the sacraments although I had prayed that the Church would relent. It was no ordeal going to church, as everyone was so friendly and courteous. “Several women wished me the best of luck as I entered the church and the church authorities handled everything in a most discreet and courteous way. I am still hoping for a special dispensation so that I do not have to attend Mass if I cannot receive the sacraments.
“If I do not get it. I shall still attend Mass, as I feel it is my duty to do so, just as I am firm in my conviction that I should continue running my birth control clinic.” The Bishop of Shrewsbury, the Rt. Rev. Eric Grasar, has told Dr. Biezanek in a letter that the sacraments would be restored when she showed “true repentance.”
