Results Of Mystery Flight Six teams of two competed in the Canterbury Aero Club s one-hour mystery flight on Saturday morning. The flight was designed to test navigation as well as flying skills. G. Allen and Miss R. McGarya, with 170 points of a possible 200, were first. W. Morrison and J. Switzer, 164 points, A. Richards and B. ChapmanCohen. 159 points, third, and C. Elliott and B. Ward. 154 points, fourth. Sealed instructions handed to each pilot, to be opened in the air, called for a climb to 1000 ft following the West Coast road to Aylesbury. Competitors then had to identify an Auster aircraft on the ground and count a number of horses and cattle in an adjacent paddock—at no lower than 500 ft—in a maximum time of three minutes. The aircraft later had to fly true south across the Selwyn river and Main South road to find another plane on the ground and to land beside it Instructions handed out there called for a change of pilots and a flight over the Waimakariri river to a station on the south side of the Eyre river. Competitors then had to estimate the magnetic bearing between the station house and a forest look-out They then returned to the Christchurch airport.
