VISIT TO YORK

Manager Sees Plaque [From A. R. VEYSEY. N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent] ABERDEEN. Jan. 13. The All Blacks spent an hour today drinking in the atmosphere and studying the more tangible indications of the beauty and history of York Minster. Thev were guided through the historic cathedral with its magnificent stained windows, said to be the finest in Europe, its 90ft arches and 200 ft ceilings. They went to the crypt and there saw the base of an original Roman pillar, part of the fortress which once stood on the site, and the remains of a Norman church. They stood in the ancient chapter and held the huge horn of Usus taken from the original church in 700 AD. by a Viking and actually very much older even than that. The manager of the team, Mr F. D. Kilby, saw the handsome plaque and sculptured profile in memory of his second cousin, Captain Jack Kilby, V.C., M.C., who was killed in World War I. The New Zealanders came back to reality with a thump when they found that, their train to Aberdeen—an eighthour journey—would be two and a half hours late. They arrived at 12.40 a.m.
