Golf NEWDICK TO BE PROFESSIONAL

Hie former New Zealand amateur golf champion, R R. Newdick, of Auckland, is to turn professional. A spokesman for W. D. and H. O. Wills (New Zealand). Ltd., the major sponsor, said last night that Newdick would be a tournament golfer. "We feel Ross has a great potential,” he said. The spokesman said it was intended that Newdick, on his return from the tournament circuit, would give exhibitions in some of the smaller centres of the Dominion to help to increase the popularity of the game. Newdick, a member of the North Shore club, won the national amateur title at Otatara, Invercargill, in 1960. beating I. D. Woodbury (Hutt) in the final He has been a member of every New Zealand representative team since 1959, playing in two world tournaments, two Commonwealth tournaments, and against Australia in 1961.
