RELICS IN SNOW

Digging Begins At Scott’s Hut (N.Z. Press Association) SCOTT BASE. Jan. 13. A broken hammer handle and a few pages of a play script have been found in Scott’s hut at McMurdo Sound by the restoration party in its first two days' digging in the accumulated snow. The broken hammer handle has the name of Griffith Taylor, a member of Scott’s 1911 expedition party, inscribed. The pages were from a play performed in the hut by the 1902-04 Discovery expedition. They called the hut the Royal Terro’" Theatre. The few handwritten pages pose a problem of identification for Eric Gibbs as to whether the script was drawn from the “Nigger Minstrels” or “Tickets of Leave.” The show, which started at 7.30 p.m., must nave caused the actors some hardship'in performance, since ethe room temperature was recorded as minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
